From The Author

I wrote this story to acknowledge the very real, very scary roller coaster of emotions that were brought on by the pandemic. I also wanted to highlight the stories of children who faced loss and grief due to covid-19

My intention was not to illuminate "doom and gloom," but to validate children's emotions/experiences and help them feel less alone. That's why it was important for me to include a message of hope and provide practical coping skills.

Until then, I choose to live by the wisdom Grandma passed down. To find stillness in my breath when anxiety throws me out to drown.

During the pandemic, Kaiah faces overwhelming anxiety. Amidst the chaos, her grandmother becomes a beacon of hope. She teaches Kaiah the power of mindful breathing. It isn’t long until she feels confident to face the road ahead.

But as tragedy strikes, Kaiah embarks on a journey of healing. How does she give back to honor her grandmother's memory?

“Grandma’s Breath uses gentle storytelling to teach practical skills for managing anxiety, including deep breathing, paying attention to the physical body, and staying active...
Grandma’s Breath is a beautifully written resource for young readers on grief, mindfulness, and anxiety."
